New Feature: World Tendency

For all you starting to beat the game a ton I think you’ll be happy to hear that we’re adding a new feature which we’re currently referring to as “World Tendency”. A core theme of the game is the direct relationship between a player’s input and the game’s reaction. We wanted to elaborate on that theme and make the entire game also react to the player. Basically, every time you beat the game or reach certain milestones, the game will do a simple calculation and calibrate to match the player. This is how we’ll be introducing new enemies/bosses, or anything that increases or lowers the difficulty of the game. In simple terms, the better you are, the harder the game will get, and the more stuff you’ll be able to see/unlock.

In the coming update we’re only scaling up for more advanced players. However the system is modular enough for us to scale both ways if we see the need to.

Hopefully that all makes sense, and I’d love to hear what you guys think about it.

The Alchemist’s Compendium

Hey guys! Said I’d get this out last Thursday but we wanted to make sure we could deliver on anything we promised, so I held off until today.

I’d like to introduce a new feature in Dandy, The Alchemist’s Compendium.

Here I use the PC menu, but this update is also coming to mobile.

The Compendium is Dandy’s log book/ journal. As you encounter new creatures and make your way further into the game, you’ll unlock entries about the world from Dandy’s perspective, and possibly spark ideas in him for New Candy.

The Compendium will launch with one research goal, “To discover and collect samples from all the enemies in the game”. We plan to continue growing it by adding new research goals for specific enemies (such as “letting horned globs fly past you”). We plan on molding future updates to what the community response is, so nothing is in stone.

These screenshots are a work in progress.

We’re hoping the compendium gives those having a bit of trouble with the game some smaller goals to work towards as they gain the skills to get to the end of the game. It’s also meant for those of you interested in the story and lore to get some more info.

I’d say this is only about 40% of what update will bring, but I think it’ll help the lifespan of the game, and give us the ability to add new content without confusing new players. I’d love to hear your ideas for what you would like to see come to the compendium. Let us know, we’re definitely listening!

Also, as far as spoilers, they’ll mainly take form as twitter posts with pictures and small hints instead of big blog posts like this. We want to be a lot less secretive so we can have an active dialogue with you guys. So if you’re interested in that, go ahead and follow us on twitter.

I’m really excited to share some of the ideas behind this world, and I’m incredibly happy to be able to introduce new items to the game. We’ve gotten so much great feedback, and we want to thank everyone that’s supported us the last month or so that the game has been out.

Here we go, Spoilers day 2… didn’t realize it was labor day yesterday, hope ya’ll had a good day.

Let’s do another smallish spoiler since everyone seems to want to see items more than anything (I don’t blame you). This one is surprisingly fun, and it is also surprisingly powerful with the right combo (you can see it doing good damage with peanut). You’ll see it called the “Supercilious Blackberry Swirl” in game and it gives you a dope beard.

This update is definitely not item heavy, don’t wanna get your hopes up. It’s mainly focused on progression. There’ll be plenty of time for new items after this update :)

I’ll be back on Thursday with something bigger…

You can buy Dandy on Steam, The App Store, Google Play, Or Amazon

Spoilers for the Dandy update commence with a new power-up, “The Butterscotch!” Wanted to start small, with an item I think everyone can figure out. Plus you get wings and that’s cool.

This was initially intended to be a gif, so no sounds sadly, you’ll just have to make them with your mouth.

Not sure how often to post these, or what you guys wanna see so let me know.

Made this art for the cover of the Dandy soundtrack which you’ll be able to get with the game (It’s 16:9 wallpaper size :D) .

Steph’s already released some songs, you can check them out HERE. Also we’re officially a Steamworks Dev, so we’ll have a release date for Dandy on PC soon. Can’t believe the game will be out soon, thanks to everyone that’s supported us so far.

It’s been a while since I post on here. A lot has happened. First off, we’ve been Greenlit! Holy butts. So that means an official release date is coming soon. Still working out some stuff… like online multiplayer racing. We also submitted to indiecade so that’s pretty great too. Sent the game out to youtube people to promote the Greenlight and got some amazing videos back, so check them out.
